Its ‘that’ time of the year again!

Well, haven’t posted anything on this blog specially when the MBA was over. Didn’t know if anyone would like to know about life after MBA.

But this dormant blog starts recieving a special jump in number of hits from December till February every year. It is the admissions season, and am sure plenty of people are anxious and curious about cracking the admissions process and of course know more about whats in store.

I wish I could help you guys a bit more, try posting your queries as a comment to the blog, would try to answer ‘em. But would not make guesses on answers to questions which I may not be competent to comment on.

So do keep it flowing; God bless.

The takeaway…

Well, I have been long putting off updating this blog in the past few months. One of the key reasons would have been the temptation to mention the placements at SCMHRD this year.

Around 3 weeks ago, I formally bid adieu to my college days. Its highly unlikely that I’ll ever be a regular student to any University/College in this life.  Two years of MBA was a mixed bag of experiences which have made me a different person than I was 2 years ago. Our timing couldn’t have been worse in terms of passing out..we shall always be the ‘recession batch of 2009′, but on the whole I still cherish my two years at SCMHRD.

People keep asking the ‘takeaway’ of MBA specially in terms of current salary I am earning and what would have been the salary had I not done the MBA. But most of us forget that the ‘takeaway’ is a relative measure with our expectations. I did not really set a salary tag (oh yes there was a bare minimum) in mind before joining the course. For me the idea of going back to college and being free of work responsibilities was quite exciting in the first place.

Engineering never gave me a chance to be with people from varied non-technical backgrounds, and here it was a different world altogether. Waking up at odd hours, sleeping in classes, studying annoying courses of accounting and economics were all a part of this journey. And Yes, placements too…after all they are the finish line of the rat race that every B Schooler runs for 2 years…and suddenly the whole world judges you on the basis of this salary tag.

Its a different and a tough year. The experiences are similar for the Class of 2009 elsewhere too, it shall be incomparable to the earlier batches or the coming batches of students passing out.

A tribute to B Division: 2007 – 2009 Batch

Coaxed and threatned here I am penning down on our B Division…aka as padhaku division, boring, nerdy and the uncool or whatever the popular mis-conception  was! So then where do I start, shall I do a Mapara and give a comment of each one of us like he did for C Division? Noo…let Mapara bask in his own glory, because i believe our division was a single organism and not just individuals brought together by the Gods of acads department.

So what was B Division – It is a potpurri of different flavors yet one color. Dahling’s of some teacher’s (read Business Law and OR) and nemesis of others (read HR). Managed to score zero as a group in one silly Eff-See-Que of RM, and managed to bail ourselves out of it too.  Certain old men give new dimesions to how HR was studied, and then there were others(certain loud mouths) who beat the CLO in explaining HR concepts. Were to the forefront of giving timely submissions and also about not caring for Foundation exams (Oh yes! some of us have still not appeared for a few of those!).

Singles, engaged, committed and married you name it and we have them…oh yes some of us even changed these stages while being a part of the gang. Blessed with singers, and guitarists we even have people who could put Janice(remember F.R.I.E.N.D.S) to shame. College toppers to exam floppers, from the tallest of the tall to the shortest of them all. From pure Punjabi fun to Man madrasa, from pernnial hard workers to sleephyheads(favorites of Pathak Sir) we have seen it and done it all. We have had cake officers to certain non resident students surprising even Prantosh.

…but then how did this cacophony of contradictions ended up giving perfect music? I’ll never know, sometimes things just given an impression of being impossible…but then for B division things have always been possimpible!

The Last Semester Cometh

As I approach the last semester, I can’t help but realise that the number of days left in college are fast depleting. I found this amazing video on YouTube by 2004-2006 batch of SCMHRD.

This is a must watch video which sums of our days at SCMHRD from classes to exams to everything during our stay here.

NEEV Again!

As the Diwali break at SCMHRD just makes us realise that every day spent at home is cherishable and worth ‘living’. Anyways, this also means that the current NEEV team is staying back in SCMHRD working their butts off on NEEV 2008 which shall be held on 28, 29 and 30th November.

Every year we make a promise that NEEV shall be bigger and better. Perhaps we underpromise and over deliver. To the outside world the event can be categorized as a B School festival but for the participants, sponsors, volunteers and the NEEV team it is all about delivering an experience like no other.

Here are the Glimpses of last year’s NEEV 2007

The High Point

Yesterday night was the hig point of my MBA program which till now had been a forgettable affair. The last year showing me scoring measily low in areas like CRM or Internet Marketing, where I know that I am good at while scoring high in subjects which didn’t really reflect my understanding of the concepts in them.

We had taken part in Avalon Consulting’s finding Sun Tzu Challenge. It is a B School event which invites teams from over 15 B Schools in India. The teams are asked to pick a case from a set of three and do their analysis on the same, this year they claimed to have recieved over 300 entries from which they have now selected the final five. I am in one of those teams which have reached this level.

I cannot describe how thrilled I am, it is no short than a big achievement to be ahead of other 295 teams from across India participating in this event. It is one of the most coveted corporate competitions here in SCMHRD atleast. The finalists now shall work with a consultant in Avalon to refine their analysis and present the case after 20 days. All the finalists also are offered Pre Placement Interviews to work with Avalon.
